I'm Jean – a Senior Front-End Architect with 8 years of experience architecting and building high-performance, full-stack web apps.
Formerly full-time at digital agencies, now independent—I partner with agencies and product teams to architect scalable React/Next.js solutions, chase exceptional Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals scores, implement robust TDD workflows, and set up agentic development practices with MCP integrations and agent quality guidelines. Services
What I deliver:
Full-stack builds from scratch:
- Secure authentication and authorization systems
- CMS integration (Strapi, Payload CMS or your own CMS of choice) with custom content modeling
- Custom backend logic and secure API integrations (REST, GraphQL)
- SaaS backend integrations and ORM-based data modeling
- Production-ready UI from design handoffs—I implement specs; I don't own visual design or Figma files
- SEO optimization on every page
UX collaboration & UI engineering:
- Strong product and UX judgment as a developer—not a substitute for a design discipline
- Pragmatic input on flows, states, and feasibility when you already have design or product in the room
- Pixel-faithful implementation, accessible patterns, and polished UI in code
Maintenance & troubleshooting:
- Bug fixes and production issue resolution
- Modifying and extending existing codebases
- Migrating legacy applications to modern React based frameworks
- Migrating package managers, framework versions, and dependency trees
Development process setup:
- Test-Driven Development (TDD) infrastructure
- Unit, integration, and end-to-end test suites
- UI playgrounds with Storybook
- Visual regression test suite integration with Chromatic
Performance & SEO optimization:
- Core Web Vitals audits and 90+ Lighthouse score targets
- Advanced caching strategies (Incremental Static Regeneration, Edge Rendering, HTTP streaming, etc.)
- SEO metadata, structured data, and sitemap generation
- Bundle optimization, asset delivery tuning, and animation performance
Agentic development workflows:
- Adopting agentic coding workflows across teams and codebases
- MCP server connections for tools, docs, and internal systems
- Quality guidelines and guardrails for AI agents (reviews, tests, coding standards)
What I don't do:
- I am not a database administrator. I can handle schema design, code-first migrations, and seeding—but complex database architecture, performance tuning, or troubleshooting database failures are outside my core expertise. If database work is required, it will be at your expense and with the understanding that this is not my primary skillset.
- I am happy to work with any SaaS backend or unfamiliar stack, provided there is time provisioned for me to get familiar.
- I am not a UI/UX designer. I don't create Figma designs or own visual identity—I implement handoffs and contribute thoughtfully alongside design and product.
Work
Career highlights
Highlights from my time as a full-time developer at New Media Labs—I now contract independently. On each account I was the dedicated solo front-end within larger agency and client teams; everything described is work I personally delivered. References are in my CV.
While at New Media Labs
Stor-Age
Solo front-end · led migration, security & SEO
While at New Media LabsI led the legacy CMS migration to Strapi and Next.js—driving a major performance lift, security hardening, and SEO. As solo developer I coordinated the quote-funnel work and kept continuity when I rotated off the account, including clear handoffs for anyone picking up my work.
Nedgroup Investments
Solo front-end · led migration & test infrastructure
While at New Media LabsI led the migration of multiple legacy fintech applications (including Staff Support and International Investor), designed and built the full test strategy and suites, and owned ecosystem upkeep—dependencies, linting—and production support for public sites and investment reporting dashboards.
SHA Pocket Underwriter
Solo front-end · architecture & dashboard build
While at New Media LabsI architected and built investment-management dashboards in Next.js from design specs—introducing Storybook, animation libraries, and implementation patterns I owned, with pragmatic UX input during build where specs needed refinement. I also handled ongoing platform support: dependencies, upgrades, bug fixes, and complex React rendering issues.
Aurecon
Solo front-end · led React migration
While at New Media LabsI led the React/Vite migration as solo developer on my areas of the legacy stack—end to end—and worked closely with the design team while implementing the rebrand. I introduced TDD and Storybook, shipped new pages and components, extended CMS integration on a content-heavy platform, and pushed performance and SEO.
